The Juice in Action

Content you can Trust

Our content team is a mix of highly credentialed educators and award-winning journalists. We’ve anchored Good Morning America, championed students of all backgrounds and ages, and won teaching awards alongside 12 Emmys and a Peabody. We craft non-partisan, balanced stories that focus on the facts, explore multiple viewpoints, and cut through the noise.

Solutions that Work

Based on preliminary results and self-report surveys from our initial study, students who fully read The Juice for four weeks saw noticeable improvements in their current events and civics knowledge and a modest improvement in their reading comprehension skills. Students also obtained a greater confidence in having conversations about the news with their friends and especially parents. Parents noticed this change, reporting greater curiosity and awareness about the news in their children.

Across the board, students found The Juice to be a reliable and unbiased source of information, noting a clear difference between The Juice and other new sources including mainstream news organizations such as CNN and Fox News, as well as social media.

Teachers who use The Juice in their classrooms have reported similar findings in focus groups and conversations with our team.

Next Steps

The Juice is currently planning a larger, more comprehensive study on our product's educational effectiveness. This upcoming study will include a control group comparison, a larger, more diverse cohort of students, and a longer period of treatment because we understand the importance of rigorous testing and comprehensive evidence.

The Juice conducted a student pilot program between January and March of 2021 to assess the educational and pedagogical value of The Juice. The Juice recruited a total of 21 students between the fourth and twelfth grades, with a majority of students between grades 4-6 and 9-10. 52% of the students identified as male, while 49% identified as female, and came from a mix of public and private schools. Students in the program were expected to complete The Juice every week day for four weeks—a total of 20 editions. Prior to the start of the program, students were assessed for their knowledge of civics and current events, their critical thinking dispositions, as well as their reading comprehension. At the end of the program, students took a similar assessment and participated in a focus group. For their participation and completion of the program, students were paid $125 and entered into a raffle for a pair of AirPods Pro.
